Back last month, the hotel chain Marriot opened its latest Moxy Hotel in York. I was invited to go along to their launch event, and it was definitely an evening to remember. So, I need to share it with you. I’ve been so eager to start writing this post and share this event with you, but I’ve been working on camps and have just come back from a week in Greece, so I’ve had to wait off a little.
The new Moxy York, is located down Black Horse Lane, off Stonebow in York. A great central location. So, a great central location. It has 118 rooms, all of which fit with the hotel’s cool and quirky vibe. The theme of the hotel focuses upon a funky and modern vibe, with a bright neon pink theme, paired with contemporary furniture throughout the hotel. There are only 7 Moxy Hotels within the UK, and I think York is a great location for one of them. Before heading to the event, I met with Pippa and Tori for a catchup over some food. It was so hot this day, as it was back when we had the mini-heatwave. Then we headed to the front of the hotel, waiting for the formal opening and launch of the Moxy York. We walked into the lobby and bar, where the event was being held, and was greeted with a glass of prosecco. Everyone then gathered to listen to a speech from the managing director of Moxy Hotels, and the manager of the York branch. This ended with confetti canons being set off, and the celebrations commenced. We were then left to explore as we wished.
There were two ‘playrooms’ for us to nosey in, both of which were situated in the two accessible rooms of the hotel on the bottom floor. The first ‘playroom’ had a bed covered in feathers in it, and a male model with very very little clothing on waiting for a pillow fight. Of course, we weren’t going to say no as we all jumped onto the bed, feathers going everywhere (and being inhaled!). We were in hysterics, it was just too much fun!
After heading to the bathroom to de-feather, we ventured into the second ‘playroom’. Here, all the lights were turned off and the room had lots of LED balloons across the floor and furniture. There were also headphones around the room, so you could have your own silent disco. How cool!
One thing I did love in Moxy York were the two murals, which both depict the history of York. They were created by two talented artists from the Amsterdam Street Art Foundation have created bespoke Moxy York pieces. Also, within the lobby was a long table filled with so many sweet treats, provided by the company Brakes. As well as this, there were many drinks stations around offering you a tipple or two (or 5…). The open bars included Whitley Neill, York Gin and Redbull, and all of which were so good. It was a great opportunity to try lots of new flavours and combinations, and if you saw my last post, you’ll know how much I love a gin!
Louise then joined us a little later into the evening, so it was lovely to catch up in the lobby over a drink before showing her around all the exciting rooms. Also, throughout the evening a band called PRTY played live music, which had everyone singing and dancing along. It really added to the already exciting atmosphere.
It was one of the best events I’ve been to. I completely underestimated how much I’d enjoy this night, it was so much fun. Moxy went above and beyond to host a wonderful and exciting event. Also, one which was a bloggers paradise, with so many great photo opportunities. Thank you so much Moxy York for the invite, it is an event I definitely won’t forget!
