The Windmill Inn is a Greene King pub, located at the bottom of Blossom Street in York. This month they are launching their new menu, with lots of new mains, desserts, and upcoming deals ready for the summer. I was kindly allowed to go allowed to their VIP menu launch*, to try out all the new food. I mean if you know me well, you’ll know I LOVE my food…so of course, I wasn’t going to turn this opportunity down! It was also lovely to go alongside Louise, who is an amazing fellow York blogger (and blog life-saver!), so the evening was filled with laughs, catch-ups and good company. Right before I start talking about the new menu, I need to mention the service! Robyn looked after us so well all evening, she was welcoming, catered to anything we needed, explained each new item on the menu and different changes which can be made to them, and asked our opinions on the food. She was really engaging and enthusiastic in her role.
Now, back to the food. I think the best way to tell you about it all, is to go through each new item one by one, and my opinions on them.
Pizza Sharing Platters (Meat Feast AND Margherita)
First up we got to try their new pizza sharing platters. The platters include a freshly baked pizza (meat feast, pepperoni or Margherita), garlic bread, and a choice of either BBQ chicken wings or deep-fried ravioli. We tried both the meat feast platter AND the Margherita platter, one with the chicken wings and the other with the deep-fried ravioli. I don’t usually like eating meat off the bone, but I gave the wings a little try and they were lovely. But, the deep-fried ravioli with a pesto dressing definitely beats them, which were delightful. I’d never had or heard of ravioli being deep-fried, but it was crisp on the outside with a soft cheesy filling on the inside. It was INSANE.

Piri-Piri Chicken Burger
Chickpea, Red Pepper and Hoison Burger (V)
By this point, I’d eaten so much food, that I was struggling to fully complete my share of the burger. This was the vegetarian burger on their menu and is a chickpea, red pepper and hoisin burger with a sweet-chilli sauce and mayonnaise. Despite being pretty full, I ate the burger without the bread bun as I wanted to give it a good try. I personally am not a vegetarian, but I do enjoy a lot of vegetarian food. This burger looked a little dry, but it definitely wasn’t and it was really tasty too. However, again like the Piri-Piri burger, it was a little too spicy for me, unfortunately. Again, this is part of the burger deal.
Chicken Kiev with a Twist
This is a breaded chicken breast glazed with garlic, with a garlic and herb Kiev sauce on the side. It is served with chips and peas. I’d already eyed this item up on the menu, so when Robyn brought it up, my eyes obviously lit up with excitement. Let’s just say, it did not disappoint. Chicken Kiev is one of my favourite foods, and this little twist made me love it even more. The sauce was mouthwatering and delicious, and the breaded chicken was crispy and succulent. This was by far my favourite item on the new menu! Also, this ‘chicken kiev with a twist’ is also part of the two mains/’pub classics’ for £10.99 deal, similarly running Monday-Saturday like the burger deal. What a bargain!
Classic Strawberry Trifle
All in all the new menu is amazing, and great value for money too with large portion sizes. I will definitely be returning to try some more of their menu! They also have a gin-club that I may have my eye on too! Thanks again to Robyn and The Windmill Inn for having us, I left feeling very full and very content!
*(#AD-Gifted Event) This is not paid adversarial or sponsored – all opinions are honest and my own. However, I was very kindly invited to attend the menu launch event by The Windmill Inn, in return for a post about the evening. They had no say in what I was to post about the event.
