Why My New Year’s Resolutions are Starting in February

Back on the 1st of January you’ll have seen that I posted my New Year’s Resolutions for 2019, which were small and manageable, but changes that could make a huge impact on my life if I stuck to them.

I know that New Year’s Resolutions can be somewhat controversial, with arguments around the timing, pressure and these new year goals often being deemed unachievable. However, for me they can often work if I set them so that they are manageable and appropriate to the time, and where I am in life.

However, January has been a bit of a rocky month for me, and I haven’t had that ‘new year fresh start‘ kind of vibe. It doeesn’t feel like a new year…I think my head is still in 2012 to be honest, and I just don’t know where this month has gone already.

All in all, January has been a bit of a shambles. I started back at university this month, with a new module which takes a full day of my week, and is out of York. I am really enjoying the module, and it is great being in a completely new learning environment, by this I mean a prison, but I’m finding the travelling a little tiring. Also this month, I’ve had a few mental health set-backs, but 2019 is going to be the year where I finally address my mental health, and stop pushing it to the side. So, I booked myself into the doctors, and let’s see where we go from there.

Coming nearer to the end of January, I am starting to get myself into a much more organised and collected mind-set, and my schedule is starting to fall into place. With this, I am excited for the much needed ‘fresh start’, so my ‘new year, new me’ (wow, cringe sorry!) is going to start in February.

I wanted to publish this post and my personal struggles with 2019, as I am sure I am not the only one who has been feeling the ‘January blues’ and have found it a hard month. Set yourself some time aside to think about what do you want and need from 2019. Another great tip is to have a ‘life admin day’, dedicating a day or even an afternoon where you just organised your diary, and sort out and plan anything you’ve been putting off; appointments, deadlines, finances, anything. Get your life organised, this will put you in a much more positive mind-set for not only the upcoming month, but for 2019 too.

    I’m with you. I never seem to get into a “groove” until the end of the month and it being after the holidays and feeling “meh” with the weather things don’t start to happen for me until February. I like to say my new year starts with the Chinese New Year. Good luck with everything!

    My best friend and I have always said we start out New Year’s Resolutions in February. January is always the month of figuring out what does and does not work and generally sorting out our lives after Christmas.
    Sundays are our sort-out and life admin days, as inspired by Kalyn Nicholson and her GYST days. I would recommend watching one of her videos as she motivates me.

      I completely agree, and I spend my Sundays exactly the same. I’ve never heard of here, I’ll be sure to check her out. It’s so lovely that you do your resolutions with your best friend, what a great motivator!
