Last year I posted my ‘UK Travel Bucket List‘, listing all the places I would love to visit within the UK, well the ones at the top of my list anyway. It went down so well, and has been my most popular post. Stats should not determine your worth I know, but it is great when you received positive feedback and responses when you dedicate time and effort to something. So, I thought I’d come back with my list of top European city-breaks I’ would love to go to, and the reasons behind each of these.
First up on my list has to be Amsterdam. This place has been on my list for far too long now, and every year I say that this is the year I’m going to go, but life gets busy (and I end up booking other trips), and it just gets semi forgotten about. It’s been on my Summer Bucket list every year, and I just need to make it happen. There is so many things I’d love to get up to in Amsterdam; Anne Franks House, Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Vondelpark, and of course the Sexmuseum…I mentioned more places I’d like to see whilst there in a previous blog post, click here to check it out.
Berlin in Germany is next on my list. The city has caught my eye every year near during the festive season, seeing posts and photos of the Christmas markets. Also, the monuments and memorials are breath-taking, and truly reflect the city’s and world’s history.
Iceland has been on of those places that have always intrigued me. I am a huge summer person, and love nothing more than going abroad, and being out and about in the beautiful sunshine, but there’s something about visiting Reykjavik that has taken my fancy for a long time now. That much so, that I have booked to go with one of my closest friends from secondary school, and we are taking our boyfriends with us. We’d spoke about going for our 21st, and we’ve invited the boys and fly on the 24th April next year. I’m so excited already, so if you have any recommendations or blog posts of your visit to Reykjavik, please share them with me!
Next up on my list is Barcelona, in Spain. Right if you’ve seen my ‘5 Hours in Barcelona‘ post you know I’ve already been to Barcelona, but it was a fleeting visit whilst we were on holiday in Calella; literally we were only there for less than 5 hours. I would love to go back and spend some more time in the city. There is so much more I want to do there, including visiting Park Guell and the Sagrada Familia.
Italy is a country that I would just love to visit generally, anywhere, the food, culture, language just looks amazing. Rome is specifically on my bucket list. The architecture and sights and heritage within the city look incredible.
I’ve recently seen so many Facebook posts and blog posts about people’s trips to Dublin, and this is probably why this location has been added to this list, especially as I’ve never visited Ireland.
If you saw my UK travel bucket list post, you’ll know a city I’d love to visit Edinburgh. This is another city that I’d love to visit for the Christmas markets. Along with how beautiful the city itself looks, there are so many sights to see and things to do; Edinburgh Zoo, Camera Obscura, and Edinburgh Castle are at the top of my list. It has huge resemblance to my home city, York, which is properly why to me it looks like the perfect getaway destination in the UK.
My boyfriend originates from Poland, and I would love to know more about where he grew up when he was young, so Bytom is another place on my European bucket list. It is located in the Silesia region in southern Poland. Whilst discussing Poland, two other cities on my bucket list are Gdansk and Krakow. Every time I see photos of Gdansk I just instantly fall in love. It is a port city on the Baltic coast, which boasts historical cathedrals, and various monuments and sights that simply amaze me. Krakow is also in southern Poland, near the border with the Czech Republic. The royal Wawel castle is incredibly beautiful, along with the building located within the main square, its truly traditional and authentic.
