I’ve recently returned from a week in Calella; Costa Brava, in Spain with Adam. We stayed at the Hotel Oasis Park Splash, and were all inclusive…I mean as much as my waist line maybe didn’t appreciate it, you can’t not when you get yourself an amazing holiday deal! More than anything, we both just wanted this week to properly relax and take a break from busy life back at home.
We flew from Leeds Bradford Airport at around 6.30am, and arrived in Girona, Spain at around 10am, with a 40 minute transfer to the hotel. When we arrived our room wasn’t quite ready, so we left our bags and went for a walk around to see what the local area was like and how to get to the beach. We then had lunch, checked in and headed straight for the pool, spending the rest of the day here. On a side-note, the hotel rooms were insane, with a double bed each and waterfall shower; I was in love. The evening was a chilled one, with a few drinks and watching the magician.
After our first breakfast, and meeting with our Jet2 rep (top guy, and made some great recommendations), we went for a morning wander along the coastline to see the coves he’d spoken about. Despite getting a eye-full from the nudist beach, we found a quaint some quaint little coves with the lighthouse on the cliffs above. We popped back tot he hotel for our beach stuff, and watermelon inflatable ring (of course!) and headed back to the beach cove we’d seen earlier. This evening after dinner we went for a game of bowling and mini-golf which was around €7 each for both of them…the queen (me) retained her mini-golf title!
During the daytime we ventured into the centre of Calella. The rows of houses and businesses were so quaint with an array of coloured buildings, and the odd piece of graffiti artwork. We then spent the afternoon, relaxing around the pool. In Spain, the 23rd is there San Juan Festival (Bonfire Night), so the evening was filled with fireworks, sparklers, and plenty of drinking and dancing.
This day we went back for a day at the same beach we’d been at the other day. We climbed (and tumbled) up the headland rocks for a few view of Calella’s coastline. The hotel entertainment this evening was a Disney show so, as you can imagine I was in my element.
Monday 25th: We had a relaxed day around the pool, becoming hooked into numerous books. Then before we headed down to dinner in the evening, we had a stroll into Calella, to take in more of it’s beautiful sights like the church within the town centre. then after dinner, there was a Caribbean dance show and we drank many a blue lagoon cocktail.
This morning we headed up to Calella Lighthouse. the walk was a light uphill stroll. the views were so worthwhile when you got to the top and gave you the full Calella landscape. We then had a wander into Calella for a little souvenir shopping, milkshakes and then went to the beach for the remainder of the afternoon.
After a morning spent around the pool and acting like big kids on the hotel’s slides, we headed up to the room early at 2pm to freshen up for an early evening. We caught the hour train from Calella to Barcelona and spent our evening here for dinner and doing your typical tourist activities. We had a truly magical time…look out for my next blog post to see what we got up to.
An early morning rise, to commence our journey home. The hotel were amazing and provided little picnic box as we were too early for breakfast. But of course as soon as we landed in Leeds we headed straight for food…I couldn’t say no to a carvery despite the hot UK weather!
I’m sat writing this and just wishing we were back here!
