One of my New Year’s Resolutions for 2018, was to engage in more self-care, especially as I feel I don’t look after myself enough and in busy, jam-packed weeks means I never take time for myself and relax sometimes…this is something I was determined to change. So, I thought I’d share some things I like to do when I’m engaging in some self-care.
Firstly, the main way I like to like to take time to myself is to watch a film, TV series, or catch up on some Youtube videos. I love to get into my pjs, jump into bed and watch one of my favourites.
Another self-care idea is doing some colouring. I have been bought so many ‘adult colouring books’ in the last couple of years, and they’re great. They take my mind off all the things that are worrying me, and help relax my mind and keep it distracted from busy life.
Especially after an exhausting and stressful day at work I love coming home and putting a face mask on, having a candle-lit bath, and just having a little pamper. This is my favourite way of unwinding and I can sit in the bath for a good few hours, whilst watching a film on my laptop and often with a Malibu and coke/Baileys…who do I think I am really! I was recently sent this Queen of Sheba Organic Spa Salt and Milk Bath* from Simply Soaps, and it just makes my baths 100x better. You add a tablespoon of this product into the bath whilst the water is running, and it makes the water milky and smelling amazing. this leaves my skin feeling subtle and soft, and the essential oils leave it glowing. I love it, you definitely need to check their products out!
As a lot of you know I started my blog, as a productive entertainment activity. Therefore, one of my self-care ideas has to be blogging. Whether it be about products you love, travelling, baking, or just any thoughts you have in your mind, it feels great to get them down somewhere, and either keep to private for only you to see or share it with friends and well, the blogging community (who are also the loveliest and most supportive community you shall ever come across!)…it’s totally up to you!
If I’ve been stuck in all day, I often get myself worked up and know I’m in need of some fresh hair. Here I will go for a walk/do some exercise. I’ve recently taken up playing netball again, and this hasn’t just improved my fitness but I feel it’s also impacted my mental health. It is something I look forward to every week, and I find it gets all my stress out from the week, whilst at the same time I get to have a good catch up/socialize with the girls I play with.
Sleep is IMPORTANT
If your feeling tired and feel like this is affecting your mood, have a nap and/or go to bed early and get a good nights sleep. I am often like this, especially after a busy day at work or uni, I just need a quick nap to perk me up, and it puts me up in a much better mind-set.
Lastly, when needing to take some time to myself, I sometimes (although I’ll admit rarely), get myself cosy on the sofa or in bed, with a good book to read. There’s no better feeling than getting entwined and captured in a story or new facts and knowledge!
EVERYONE needs to engage in self-care, even if it is an hour or so a week, where you just sit and reflect on the week, paint your nails or just scribble your stresses down on a piece of paper. Just please do it, because it will make you feel much better the more you do it!
What do you guys do when having some self-care time?
