I’m back with a monthly favourites post, as there has been so many products and places I’ve been loving this month.
First off, before I split my favourites into categories I have to mention my number one favourite this month, my MacBook. I had some HUGE issues with new laptops last year after I decided I needed to invest in a new one as my old one was more than 6/7 years old. After all the complications, I decided to work some extra shifts over Christmas, and then when I got paid, I treated myself to a MacBook, and this has been the best investment ever, I’m in love with the quality, format and just the huge advancement in technology compared to my old one. I got the MacBook Pro 256GB in Space Grey. What a great start to the new year this was.
Beauty and Skincare
I have been loving Lush Bubble Bars this month. I never used to be a bath person, and it was only maybe once a year I’d have one. But when I started worked 10 hour shifts, on my feet all day, having a bath when I got home helped to calm my hyper-mobility pains down and make me feel so relaxed after a busy day. So, I’ve purchased and been bought a fair few bubble bars recently including; Man in the Moon, Candy Mountain, and Christmas Cracker (this one was definitely my favourite!).
I’ve also been loving the T-Zone Charcoal Nose Pore Strips. My pores are awful, and it obviously doesn’t help that I have oily skin, which is especially worse in my t-zone area. these are amazing, they draw out of the muck and dirt in my pores, and leave it feeling so unclogged and clean. These were less than £1.50 for 8 individual nose strips, so they’re an absolute bargain.
My last favourite beauty item this both is the Maybelline Super Stay 24 Color Liquid Lip in the shade 340 Absolute Plum Prune Absolue. This was the perfect dark red shade for valentines day, and found the shade complimented my skin tone and wasn’t too ‘in your face‘. It has the lip colour on one end and a balm on the other end to apply on top, it’s a great duo product.
I’ve been trying to change-up my ‘style’ a bit this month, as I live in skinny jeans, and to be completely honest they’ve faded so much and just don’t look great. I bought myself some black tailored trousers in the Tesco F&F sale before Christmas, but have never had to confidence to try to style and wear them. This month I went to a friend’s birthday meal, and the ‘dress code’ was smart/casual, well I mean I had no clue what to wear, plus Abbi’s style and outfits are always A-M-A-Z-I-N-G, so you can imagine the hissy fit I had when trying to find something to wear. I eventually decided to brave the trousers, and now I love them. They’re so smart, but so flattering on my ‘figure’ (still need to get back to the gym to lose my Christmas chub!). Oh another thing you won’t be able to tell is that they’re supposed to be full length, but hey seen as I’m a 6ft giant, I can get away with them being cropped can’t I!?
I’ve just come back from a trip to Liverpool, and whilst I was there I popped into Forever 21, as we don’t have one in York. I found this lovely pair of black boots which were in the sale for £14, but then had a further 50% off…I mean £7 for a pair of boots, where can you go wrong. They’re so comfy and fit perfectly, they’re so simple but look great with a skirt and tights or jeans.
This month I introduced Adam to the most wonderful programme on this planet, Gavin and Stacey. At first, he didn’t quite get the British comedy and jokes, but after a couple of episodes he loved it, and now understands why I’ve been nagging him to watch it for so long! It made me fall back in love with the programme, the humour, cast, storyline, everything just leaves me in stitches.
Another TV programme I’ve been loving this month is Hunted, on Channel 4. I’ve watched every season of this, and each time it gets better and better. The programme is about 10 ‘fugitives’ that go on the run from a team of specialist ‘hunters’, made up of former police officers and intelligence professionals, and must remain on the run for 28 days, for a chance to win a share of £100,000. From the off-set it leaves me hooked to the screen, to a point where I’m screaming at the TV when the hunters are on their tracks. The technology they use baffles me, and this season I especially loved the use of the ‘ghost hunter’, and the advanced use of phone data and cell towers. You have to watch this, it’s great.
Travel / Food and Drink
Of course my favourite destination this month has to be Liverpool. Adam and myself stayed here for two nights over Valentines, and I’m just amazed by how wonderful the place is and how much there is to do there. There will be a ‘Travel Diary’ up on my blog in the next few weeks, telling you about all the things we got up to.
My favourite cafe this month is Filmore & Union in York, down Low Petergate. Carina and myself popped into here for lunch one Monday during our break at uni, and the food was amazing, plus super healthy (well for me anyway!). We both had the Filmore street veggie wraps, a white chocolate and raspberry blondie, and raw cocoa smoothie. It was delicious, and I definitely want to go back again sometime to try their breakfast menu.
I have drunk a fair few cocktails this month, well I have had a few occasions to celebrate, but my favourite this month was the new Malibu Swizzle cocktail at Las Iguanas, which is Malibu, falernum, lime, passion fruit, pineapple, and bitters. Oh my days, this is my new favourite, and look how cute the glass is too!
Lastly, there are a few random but great monthly favourites I want to share with you, one of which is my Eeyore Hooded Blanket/Throw. I had my eye on the range of hooded throws in Autumn last year, and ‘subtly’ hinted to Adam at how much I REALLY wanted one! He chose the Eeyore one and I just love it. It’s the softest blanket ever, and I love getting wrapped up in it on an evening, especially on during these colder, bitter days we are having.
Also, I can’t not mention that I’m back playing netball again and absolutely loving it! It’s a casual, social league where teams are put together for you, and the girls are amazing and so lovely. It’s something I look forward to every week, and it is such a laugh. I may also have to mention that we’ve won all our matches so far…go us!
