I thought I’d write a post about a trip mum and I went on last month. For mum’s 60th birthday, one of the presents I bought her was a night away at the Majestic Hotel and Spa in Harrogate, which is a beautiful Victorian property. I’d looked at the hotel a few times before making a booking, but it was a little pricey (student budgeting!). However, it was mum’s 60th and she deserves so much more than I could ever give her. Before booking I thought I’d have a little look on Groupon and came across a voucher for the hotel, which included a nights stay, breakfast, 3-course meal, lake check out and a bottle of wine in the room. What a bargain for less than £100 for both of us! So I used this voucher and booked the room, then booked a spa package for both of us; ‘The Signature Pamper’ package. Mum was so surprised when she opened this present on her birthday (17th February), she even cried!
The night before our stay, I (stupidly) looked on Trip Advisor at the recent hotel reviews for the Majestic Hotel, and they all were pretty negative. I rang the hotel with a few questions about things I wasn’t sure about (like robes!), and the lady kindly gave me a complimentary upgrade to a deluxe room, knowing it was for a special birthday. How kind!
On arrival at the hotel, we were aware the room would not be ready until around 3pm, so had lunch (with came as part of the spa treatments package), and made use of the leisure facilities in the hotel until we went up to the room at about 2.30pm.
Massages and facials for two
At 4pm we went down for our spa treatments. Having previously had a bad experience with spa treatments I was a little anxious. We both opted for the back, shoulders and neck massage and the aromatherapy facial. I cannot even describe how RELAXED I felt, it was incredible. The two ladies who did our treatments were also so lovely and kind (big shoutout to them!).
We then went back up to the room to get ready for the evening meal. The hotel had a little surprise for us in our room as they had left us a bottle of prosecco and some chocolates for mum’s birthday!
3 Course Meal
The 3 course meal was delicious. I had chicken roulade for starter, peppercorn chicken and roasted vegetables for main and chocolate truffle for dessert. The food was such a high quality and there was a great range of choice on the a la carte menu. We then sat in the lobby and had a few drinks, before going up to the room to chill out, drink prosecco and go to bed.
The weather was unfortunately miserable the next morning, so my plan of going for a walk around the gardens did not happen. But, we got up and went down for breakfast around 10am. The breakfast was a ‘buffet style’/help yourself service. There was the choice of a full English, continental options like hams, cheeses and breads, fruit salad, cereals and ore as well as much juice or hot drinks as you’d like. The Majestic knows how to do a good breakfast. When I say I ate a lot, I mean I devoured the breakfast, it was so good. We had late check out as part of our stay, so we went back up to the room and relaxed for a little longer (and mum drank the rest of the prosecco!) before getting sorted to leave.
Overall, we had the most lovely and relaxing stay at the Majestic Hotel and would recommend it to anyone. The staff were all so lovely, and were there if you needed anything or had a problem. I’d recommend the hotel if you’re looking for a peaceful break from busy life.
